Homeschool on the move.
Road-schooling, RV life, or just a long weekend at the lake: class comes with you. Hand off the subjects you'd rather not teach; you stay in charge.
Live, small-group classes where families book vetted, independent educators directly, not software sold to schools. Learners from kindergarten to adult join from wherever life takes them: the RV, the living room, a café in France, or a mountaintop in a national park. Educators teach the subjects they love, set their own price, and keep 82% of every booking, so their skills are truly rewarded. All of this is built on a Christian foundation and open to everyone.
No subscriptions. No curriculum lock-in. Book one class or a whole semester.
Parents add each kid's grade and interests. Adults sign up for themselves.

How classes work →Road-schooling, RV life, or just a long weekend at the lake: class comes with you. Hand off the subjects you'd rather not teach; you stay in charge.
Log in from the porch, a campsite, or a hotel room between meetings. Learn a language, a skill, or the story of wherever you're headed next.
Classes paired with real places. Study the geology before you hike the canyon, the battle before you walk the field, and the state before you cross its border.
Geology, wildlife, and the stories behind the parks on your route.
Battlefields, missions, and monuments, studied before you stand there.
A state's history, people, and landmarks, learned before the drive.
Church history and the places where it happened.

Learn together, and let us keep the records.
A parent and kids join the same live session and learn side by side. One class, one conversation, and something to talk about at dinner.
Great for history before a trip, Bible study, art, and anything better learned together. Look for the Family class tag: one booking covers you and the kids you pick.
How family classes work →Co-ops and homeschool groups can register several learners at once, with one payment, to take a class together in the same place. Look for the Groups welcome tag. Every learner still gets their own transcript and certificates.
How group registration works →Openly Learning isn't an accredited school. Transcripts and certificates are records of learning, not school credit.
our story —
As a professor, educator, and homeschool parent, co-founder John Hoogeveen kept seeing the same need:
Openly Learning was built in Grand Rapids, Michigan, to meet that need.
Education shouldn't be limited by geography, institutions, or one-size-fits-all models. Openly Learning connects learners with passionate educators through small, live online classes, in academics, life skills, ministry, the arts, and more.
Educators teach on their own terms. Teachers, professors, ministry leaders, artists, tradespeople, and other experts build classes around what they know and reach students wherever they are.
Everyone has something valuable to learn, and something valuable to teach.

Educator · Author · Missionary · Lifelong learner
John has spent his life helping people discover, develop, and share their God-given gifts. For more than 12 years he has taught hundreds of students: high schoolers, college students, adult learners, ministry leaders, and homeschoolers. He has taught in classrooms, churches, conferences, and online.
On the mission field, he developed and led educational workshops around the world. Back in the United States, he taught communication at several Michigan universities, where he saw both the strengths and the limits of traditional education.
Openly Learning was started by Christian educators who believe every learner is made in God's image. Bible and worldview classes sit right beside algebra and art, and every class honors our Christian values.
“In whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.”
for adults —
Grow as a disciple and as a leader. Live classes for small-group leaders, pastors, ministry volunteers, and anyone who wants to go deeper in their faith.
The track is shaped by our co-founder's doctoral work in discipleship and years of training ministry leaders on the mission field.

Yes. Each student gets a transcript, certificates, and a portfolio of sessions, work and educator feedback, ready to print or save as a PDF. Our state-by-state guide shows what your state asks you to keep.
Class bookings are final, with two exceptions: if an educator cancels or misses a session, you're refunded for that session; and if we remove an educator because of an incident (for example, misconduct or false credentials), learners in that educator's classes are refunded.
No. Everyone is welcome to learn with us. Educators don't have to be Christian either, but every class must respect our Christian values, and Bible and worldview classes are taught only by Christian educators.
We store only your student's first name, grade, and interests. Educators see a student's first name only for classes you've booked.
